Blue + Yellow = Green at Berkeley’s Caltopia VII
August 26th, 2009

Berkely Cal students returned to campus this week and turned their school colors into green at Caltopia VII, the largest College Lifestyle Festival in the nation. Thousands of Golden Bears stopped by the Bungaloo art project during the 2-day event hosted by Cal Recreational Sports.
Not only did students express their creativity by painting shades of green, blue, and yellow to the life-size mural of a tree, but they were also given the opportunity to help erase their carbon footprint and support reforestation projects around the world. Bungaloo partnered with Seed Our Future, a non-profit who plants trees in deforested areas of the world. Students received donation cards, allowing them to choose one of seventeen counties in which to have their tree planted. The goal of this project was to allow students to have fun with color, while connecting the eco-friendly festival with Bungaloo’s eco-friendly, zero-VOC product.

A Little Late - Day 2!
June 16th, 2009
So, for us, maybe the word “live” blogging takes a different meaning! But seriously, we were so busy and so thrilled with what was going on at Bonnaroo, we were having trouble getting back to do the blogging. But I digress. Let’s take a look at what went on Friday, Day 2 of Bonnaroo!

Day 2 started at the Art Project where things really started going well. Word was spreading like wildfire around the campgrounds about what we were doing. It was exciting to see how many people were interested in doing tiles for the community art project, and by the end of the day, we had a full water drop complete!

Of course, once it was done, it was time to hoist it into position!

Check out how creative some of the Bonnaroo peeps can be! This was just one of the tiles we saw that displayed amazing artistry. At this point, we are working on a way to display some of the best ones on our site because people’s creativity was just astounding.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our amazing crew. So a quick shout out and thank you to our fellow event looies that took care of all our participants over the festival. More to come in a while about days 3 and 4!

Day 1 kicks off with a bang!
June 12th, 2009
What an incredible day! After all the hard work and planning, Centeroo opened at Noon yesterday (yes, I know, we should have had this up last night, but it was certainly a busy day!) There was a lot of last minute scrambling around the venue to get everyone’s tents ready. Here is a photo of some friends we made over at the Sequatchie Valley Institute. They wanted to go ahead and try something creative this year, and make their hut a little different and brighter, so we were happy to lend them some color liquid to give it a go…

Not long after, we had a ton of people flood into the venue and the music got started and breakdancing lessons began on the Solar Stage which we are adjacent to. We got a lot of curious looks as to what the “Official Color Provider” means, but it was really great to see people’s reactions when we talked about it. People loved the site and thought we really were on to something big when it comes to paint and color. Then, people really got into it, and started going to town with our tattoos. This is the clearest picture I have, but there were several people who put multiple ones all over themselves!

Here’s Tim, our Head Event Looie musing on the day…Notice the hot shirt!

Not long after, the Academy started its first art class, and they had a huge turnout! All using our color liquid! It is absolutely amazing to see people’s creativity when they are just given a brush and some tools to make their imaginations come to life. Here was one of the best ones we saw…

Finally, we got the Community Art Project going late in the day. Over the next three days, anyone who is attending the festival is invited to colorize one of the blue tiles you’ll see in photos below, and then they will be affixed to the water droplet frame. The ultimate goal is to have an art piece that is a true reflection of the Bonnaroo Community.

Overall, it was just a great day and we are looking forward to talking to even more Looies today!
