Day 1 kicks off with a bang!

June 12th, 2009

What an incredible day! After all the hard work and planning, Centeroo opened at Noon yesterday (yes, I know, we should have had this up last night, but it was certainly a busy day!) There was a lot of last minute scrambling around the venue to get everyone’s tents ready. Here is a photo of some friends we made over at the Sequatchie Valley Institute. They wanted to go ahead and try something creative this year, and make their hut a little different and brighter, so we were happy to lend them some color liquid to give it a go…

Not long after, we had a ton of people flood into the venue and the music got started and breakdancing lessons began on the Solar Stage which we are adjacent to. We got a lot of curious looks as to what the “Official Color Provider” means, but it was really great to see people’s reactions when we talked about it. People loved the site and thought we really were on to something big when it comes to paint and color. Then, people really got into it, and started going to town with our tattoos. This is the clearest picture I have, but there were several people who put multiple ones all over themselves!

Here’s Tim, our Head Event Looie musing on the day…Notice the hot shirt!

Not long after, the Academy started its first art class, and they had a huge turnout! All using our color liquid! It is absolutely amazing to see people’s creativity when they are just given a brush and some tools to make their imaginations come to life. Here was one of the best ones we saw…

Finally, we got the Community Art Project going late in the day. Over the next three days, anyone who is attending the festival is invited to colorize one of the blue tiles you’ll see in photos below, and then they will be affixed to the water droplet frame. The ultimate goal is to have an art piece that is a true reflection of the Bonnaroo Community.

Overall, it was just a great day and we are looking forward to talking to even more Looies today!
